Cockroaches are amongst the pests which are attracted to unhygienic conditions. That's not true of all pests, for example with bed bugs and woodworm it makes very little difference what the external conditions are like. Cockroaches certainly are attracted to filth though. Which is not to say that it is always your fault that you get an infestation, because they can also spread from neighbour's apartments, or be carried in cardboard boxes.

However you got the infestation though, if you've got a problem with cockroach control, London has a great company to deal with it, you can contact Pest Control London 24/7 to get a free quote.

Preventing Cockroach Infestations

As stated, cockroaches are attracted to unhygienic conditions but can also spread through being in the same proximity as your property. So if you want to avoid getting an infestation you will have to make sure that your property is clean, and also make sure that all of the little tiny gaps in your external walls, or the walls between apartments, are sealed up.

Getting Rid of Cockroaches

THe German roach against a white background, a hard-shelled insect with long antennae If you see a single cockroach then of course there are many ways that you can kill it, a shoe would do fine for example. However if you have a whole infestation, if there is a nest nearby, then killing them one at a time is not really an option. For one thing, they don't leave their nest very often and when they do it is only when it is dark. Also there will just be far too many roaches to deal with.

Some of the options you will have for cockroach treatment are:

Sticky Strips When cockroaches run over sticky strips they will be trapped. You then have to deal with getting rid of the bodies of course, and this method suffers from the same problem as the problem of killing them one at a time. It would take too long, and actually considering the rate at which they reproduce it would simply never work. It's a good way to find out if there are any cockroaches operating in the area though.

Boric Acid Powder This has a much better chance of being more effective. When a cockroach runs through the acid powder that you have laid down, it doesn't die straight away. In fact, it will probably get back to the nest and spread it around on some more cockroaches before it dies.

Fumigation They only way that you will pretty much be guaranteed success is when you get a professional pest control expert to employ fumigation techniques. The gas will get to wherever the nest is and kill all of the cockroaches there. Even this might not work the first time though because there might be some eggs that can still hatch after this has been carried out. A female cockroach usually has 30-40 eggs in each egg capsule, and it only takes 3 or 4 months for an egg to become an adult cockroach.
