Even though they're mostly associated with the countryside, anyone who lives deep in a big city like London will know that they are also a big problem there as well. Wasps don't need very much to survive, just a little bit of warmth, some shelter and some insects to eat. So if you've found a wasps' nest in London then contact Pest Control London 24/7 for assistance.

How To Get Rid Of Wasps

Wasps flying around the entrance to a nest. With most pests, you can choose to try to get rid of them yourself if you want to. For example, you could put out the rat poison or the mouse traps yourself, but with wasps it's different. There is a safety issue involved, as you need some pretty good protective clothing to make sure you're not going to get stung. What also has to be taken into consideration is the fact that the only way to effectively perform wasps nest removal is with an insecticide which is licensed to professionals only.

This means that even if you got all of the equipment you needed and all of the protective clothing, to get the substance required to get rid of the wasps you would either have to train as a professional pest control technician, or break the law. That's why some people try other techniques, apart from the official one, but unfortunately they are not going to be nearly as effective, and they are all a lot more dangerous.

For example, one common amateur technique is to set the nest on fire. While many wasps will be killed that way, you probably won't get all of them and you have the danger of the fire as well. The way the professionals do it is inject an insecticide inside the nest, to ensure that all of the wasps will come in contact with it and die but at the same time they won't become aggravated because they won't realise what is going on.

Wasps' Life Cycle

A close up of a wasp against a white background. It helps, when facing a wasps' nest, to know a little bit about them. Then depending on what time of year it is, you will know at what stage the nest is likely to be at.

Spring The queen starts to build the nest. The common wasp tends to build inside for the shelter, whereas the German wasp more often builds their nest more openly.

Summer More and more wasps are being grown as the queen continues with egg production. At it's height anywhere from 3,000 to 10,000 wasps will occupy a single nest.

End of Summer/Autumn The wasps start to die off as the weather gets cooler. Before this happens, however, the queen stops growing eggs and the wasps don't have to gather insects to bring back to the nest. This is the time when they will go after sweet food and drinks and are more aggressive towards humans.
